Dear Supporters,
I can hardly believe we've been open for nearly eight weeks, so much has happened to transform this shell into a home. One day as I stood in the bathroom bathing our frail little Kevin, I could hear Isobel crying and immediately her Nanny's soothing voice reassure her. I could hear another Nanny singing to Eve as she played with her on her lap, then pausing to call over to Brittany, letting her know she is beautiful and that lunch was on its way.
The cleaner cooed over Angel as she slept peacefully. All so
different from the filthy, cold rooms we encountered at the start of the year.
In the 6 beds we have open we have cared for 12 children; with great sadness we said goodbye to Hope, Harry, Martha, Kevin and Chris - all very peaceful and loved even in the short time we were
able to give them care.
Angel (age 3 months) has had her operation; we were told that under the government scheme she would have to wait until
she was 3 years old. We are grateful for the generosity of three donors who covered most of the costs. We still need another
5,000 rmb (£500, AUD900, USD300) to cover fully the hospital costs. Even while she was in hospital for three weeks, she carried on developing and settled back into the Butterfly Home laughing and wriggling in her happy way.
See the stories pages on the website for more on her story.
Our Latest Arrival
Peter weighed in at just under 2lbs at six days old, a little old man of a baby - downy beard and all. He was cold and not pooping,
his abdomen swollen and misshapen. How had he survived as long as six days? I swaddled him and gave him to a nanny to hold
overnight not expecting him to survive, however he defied the odds and three days later has pooped and is drinking almost enough milk. Who knows what miracles we will see?
A big thank you!
We have been overwhelmed with your responses to our needs and opened big parcels of quilts, medicines, clothes and toys.
THANK YOU so much.
We are aware that on the floor above the Butterfly Home there are many more babies and children we could make a big difference to and are planning to open more beds in July, finance permitting. If you would like to sponsor one of the children or donate
towards medical costs, please email info@chinakidz.org In order to expand we also need more volunteer nursing/medical staff, see our website and email lyn@chinakidz.org for more information. Specifically the need is from October 2010 for any time from 1 month to 3 years.
We have been blessed by a number of volunteers already, thanks to Rosemary & Tonja from USA, Huw & Marg (UK), the McNeil family (Australia), what a difference you all made. I am so grateful that
Catherine (a UK nurse) is here now for about 3 months, sharing the load and stretching her skills to new levels!
